This Smartphone features great selfies. In terms of exterior design, how do you expect to bring consumers a new experience?
When you pick up this phone, we hope the first impression is “slim & gentle”.
On some level, we understand that slim and gentle is quite contrary and opposite.
To achieve a gentle feel, we need a battery cover that fits the palm—one that is (ideally) slightly curved.
If we’re going for slim, then the optimal design is to make the battery cover flat, to make it as thin as physically possible.
To make the two compatible and reach a balance, we created all types of model surfaces until we found that sweet spot. So when you hold the Hot S2 you will experience a feel that is gentle, slim, smooth, and finely textured. This is the first impression we want to give our users.
Once satisfied with first impression, we hoped to include some form of classic metallic sheen. We want it to accentuate product quality whether the users is holding it, talking on the phone, or taking a selfie.
We decided to frame this sheen on the sides. Utilizing high-precision mirrored laser, we designed 2 silver highlight strips that can stand out in any environment with its fluid sheen. To compliment this effect, there are 2 horizontal silver highlight strips on the backside. The camera, flash, and fingerprint sensor are all meticulously highlighted. Oval sound holes are lined on the device bottom in an orderly fashion. Details you can see and feel underwent countless iterations to bring users the end product.

Yes. Or in other words, all of our starting points originate from the consumer perspective—anything that they may want becomes a valuable and meaningful design option. Like a Michelin meal or rock star concert, we want to bring consumers a pleasant and enjoyable experience.

Is there anything unique in terms of color?
One of the biggest change for the new generation Hot S2 is that your personality can easily find its match in our color lineup.
We decided to lower color brightness and increase saturation for a gentle and surreal tone. This color palette is uncommon for mobile communication products. Combining the adjustment with this year’s trending flavors, we meticulously selected 4 standout colors to accompany our users.
Can you be more specific or provide an example?
For instance, Haze Pink: we searched for the color that is produced at sunset, when sunlight refracts through the atmosphere. By capturing beauty of that instant, we hope to promote romance.
Crystal Black: black is a popular color for this year’s mobile products. Amidst common shades of black, we added another trending flavor—olive green. Revealing some green in base black is colorful, friendly and attracts the eye.
Topa Blue: we are inspired by the moon, the faint blue in its faded yellow. Greyish blue is the color of an open night sky, a dash of melancholy is thrown into the soft and bright base color.
Champagne Gold: gold has been a trending color for the past few years. We were always looking for a gold that is light, warm, but not overly pretentious. A slight orange and silver was mixed into the gold base for a red flush that illuminates with faint silver.
